Cruise Packing Lists

When it comes to packing for a cruise, each person has their own style.  Some pack light, others pack like Boy Scouts and are prepared for anything.

My tips for packing:
  • Bring comfy shoes - there is a lot of walking done on a cruise.
  • Dress in layers - you can be warm on the island and cool at night or in the dining room.
  • Bring outfits that can mix and match - it's okay to wear the same capris twice on a week long cruise.  I promise!
  • Pack an extra set of clothes, medication and your toiletries or anything you might need for the first night in a carry-on, sometimes suitcases arrive late.
  • Don't forget sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses for the islands.
  • Don't stress about the formal night, an outfit you'd wear to a wedding or church service is dressy enough.  Or you can pull out all the stops and wear that sequined dress you have tucked away.
An over-the-door shoe organizer is a great way to stow away toiletries, this works wonders if you are sharing a room with another gal.  Store it over the bathroom door to free up your counter space and keep everything handy.

And another packing list - this one has boxes you can check off before you print.

Do you have a packing tip to share?

  1. The only thing that I would mention is that you can get items laundered on the ship. It's not that expensive - especially if you have to pay for an extra piece of luggage. It might be the difference between two-three pairs of capris for the week and needing 5-7 pairs. It might be worth $3-4 to pay to have the pair cleaned and worn again!

  2. Don't forget the sunblock! There's nothing worse than being one of the miserable "lobster-people" walking around the ship. And put it in your carry-on that you take with you on the ship...it might be a little while before you can get into your cabin, and who wants to START a cruise sunburned?

Oh, and even if you NEVER get seasick, take something with you for seasickness (Dramamine low dose works for me)...you're going to be sitting at a table beading a couple of times, and working with little beads can do it....and drink lots of water because that helps, too...and, if you start getting a headache, take your seasick pill - it might mean it's starting up...

  3. Thanks Liz - I always wondered about the laundry service on the cruise.

    Great tips Katie!
